Adapt and ExtendTM

Leveraging Cloud Architecture and Continuous Product Delivery can be great catalysts for accelerating innovation. However, for most companies, migrating to the cloud in a big bang approach is too risky. An incremental strategy that leverages Cloud architecture to Adapt and ExtendTM existing systems for a transitional period reduces risk while allowing an organization to reap the benefits of reduced cost and accelerated innovation.

Our experience has shown that this approach can be used in a variety of models that include the following among others:

  • New Products: In this model, new products and services are delivered on a Cloud architecture while leaving existing products and services in their existing architecture until such time that older products can be migrated to the cloud.
  • Streamlining Integration with Partners: This model applies to organizations that have significant partner integrations that may be too costly and complex to manage and support. Leveraging Cloud architecture to accelerate and simplify the ability to integrate with new and existing partners can be of great incremental benefit.
  • Monetization of Data Assets: Many organizations have significant data assets that can be used by internal and external customers to guide better decision making and customer support. Leveraging Cloud architecture to empower Actionable Analytics and Data Services can capitalize on the various persistence technologies as well as pluggable machine learning and complex event processing algorithms to monetize the data assets.
  • Innovation in Customer Engagement: This model involves delivering a frictionless omni-channel customer engagement that streamlines customer interactions and fosters customer loyalty. It can capitalize on the Cloud technologies to deliver an exceptional User Experience while hiding the complexities of the underlying products and services that are operating in legacy technologies.

In all these models, an Event Hub architecture should be used to collect events from various customer engagement channels and support loosely coupled integration between the cloud based solutions and existing systems. This will enable seamless operations during the transitional period, but also provide a foundation for enterprise integration in the cloud. Regardless of which of these models are to be applied, a successful approach to achieving innovation at a faster pace requires a combination of a well-defined architecture blueprint and a customer centric approach to software development.
